ACQUIRING COMPETENCIES

Line & Color
These are Alexander Girard's prints as vector files in Adobe Illustrator. The prints to the right are called New Sun (top) and La Fonda del Sol (bottom). The competency of line and color allowed me to use the eye dropper and pen tool to the best of my ability. When creating these I also learned the ability to use the blending mode to "Difference" for alignment and accuracy. These components will help me in the future to perform accuracy when creating an illustration or logo on photoshop.


Animation
These are animation projects created throughout the year. These animations were created in Adobe After Effects with projects from Adobe Illustrator. Refining these allowed me to understand the importance of timing keyframes to allow a fluent animation. Also, I can scale and align each vector to be adjusted alone with Adobe Illustrator. This is a great skill to have for future projects to create fluent vector animations for a logo or brand.
Writing Ad Copy
This is an ad copy writing for a dog adoption agency. This competency taught me that every company has a core message, benefit, target audience, and a reason to be different from other brands. This skill will be a great asset when a new company is developing their brand and me, as a developer, can ask and answer the questions of what the brand is about.

Radio Ad
This project allowed me to write a copy ad for a radio station. It also helped me understand how to change my tone and expression of voice for any situation regarding branding. It also allowed me to have audio skills regarding how volume plays a part in what the audience can and needs to hear. I can use this skill editing videos for myself and church. I can also use the tonality with my jobs when it comes to pitching an idea or product to the audience.
Typography
The projects below deal with the different aspects of visual hierarchy, typeface, and line spacing. There are many ways to adjust typography to create something formal or expressive. I learned that a typeface can express a theme with enough research and will provide relation to future design projects.

Stylization
The competency of stylization created banners for events dedicated to my chosen holidays. This has taught me how to blend images to create something new and use textual hierarchy for legibility. This helped me with the projects I created later on in the year to understand how the naked eye works when blending images based on a theme. It also teaches me the importance of textual layout.
Brand Sonification
These are representations of brand sonification. These taught me that everything has sound, whether it's a season or a thought; everything has a sound to it. I was able to apply sonification to Juneteenth (holiday) and Craft N' Play (logo animation) by having a sound represent what's being shown visually. This took my look on audio to another level because now I can add sound to anything to relate to the brand in the future.


Cinemagraph
These are GIFs created in Photoshop. They are cinemagraphs because they have either a still background or foreground. The competency of GIFs taught me how to make a still image within a video on Photoshop. It also teaches me that a simple move can embellish great emotion on a theme. This is great to use in the future to express my creativity whenever I want motion in my own photography.



Creating A Vision Board
This is the vision board created for Craft N' Play. Creating this vision board helped create the logo and media assets while also help me paint a picture of what the brand can accomplish. I was able to understand the point of design with research and revisions. This will help in the future if I have to design a vision board whether for a brand or myself.

Logo Design
This is the full process of the Craft N' Play logo design. It taught me that each process requires subtracting ideas, even if they are our favorites. In the beginning, I was able to create 80+ logo ideas, sticking to the idea of growth and icons. The process and outcome allowed me to let go of many ideas and rely on what would represent the brand. It will help me in the future when others come to me for logo advice or creation.

Multi-Platforms
These media assets brought the concept of being simple in design for business. Every design has contained elements of the brand, but there isn't too much to where it takes away the business element. This will be helpful in the future for me to create a letterhead or t-shirt design for a business.







Brand Style Guide
Creating a brand style guide allowed me to understand the competency of alignment and brand development. Being able to put everything together allows me to map out what pulls these pieces together. This will help me with mapping out future projects and know how to properly present an idea reagarding brand development.
